THAI YOGA MASSAGE
"The physical application of loving kindness."
What is Thai Yoga Massage?
Thai Yoga Massage (TYM) is an ancient healing art, handed down from teacher to pupil since the third century BC. TYM uses an energy line system—the Ten Sen—through which the body's natural life force flows. Blockages in this life force cause aches, pains and disease. In a typical session, the therapist uses their hands, feet, and elbows to apply pressure to key points along these energy lines. This is complemented by gentle stretching and applied Hatha Yoga techniques, which help to release blockages, allowing energy to flow freely and restoring the body's natural healing ability, balance, and harmony.
What are the Therapeutic Benefits?
Thai Yoga Massage (TYM) is effective in treating a wide range of ailments, including headaches, knee pain, back, shoulder, and neck pain, as well as premenstrual tension. It is particularly beneficial for conditions like Multiple Sclerosis, stroke recovery, and numbness or loss of sensation. TYM can also provide pain relief during labour.
This healing practice enhances flexibility, promotes relaxation, and helps restore and energise the body, leaving the recipient feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Contrary to common belief, Thai Yoga Massage (TYM) doesn’t require practitioners or clients to be flexible, athletic, or strong. Each treatment is tailored to the individual’s needs, focusing primarily on balancing the body’s energy through techniques like palming and thumbing. This makes TYM accessible to everyone, regardless of age or physical condition. While the yoga-based stretches are secondary to the treatment, they can enhance the overall experience and provide additional benefits for those who are able to receive them.
Who is it for?
Why become a Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner?
Thai Yoga Massage (TYM) is a beautiful shared experience that offers a meditative journey through movement and breath for both the practitioner and the receiver. While the benefits for the recipient are profound, giving TYM is equally rewarding, helping practitioners become centred and present within the rhythmic flow of the treatment. Many students find their lives transformed physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
TYM is accessible to anyone, regardless of age, shape, or size, allowing practitioners to choose techniques that suit both their clients and themselves.
Many experienced "hands-on" professionals such as Yoga and Pilates Teachers, Personal Trainers, Shiatsu Practitioners, Osteopaths and Physiotherapists find that expanding their skillset with the complementary insights and techniques of TYM can be of great benefit to their clients.
